It’s Almost Time
It doesn’t seem long ago that we were in the UK filming with the team from ITV’s Britain’s Top 100 Dogs. At the time, knowing it wouldn’t be screened until the end of January it felt a pretty long wait to see what they did with our efforts to explain all about Schnauzerfest. Now it’s almost time to sit back and watch splashes of orange on our TV screens, lots of schnauzers, and me doing my best to put across just how important everyone is who makes Schnauzerfest happen.
I began Schnauzerfest in 2014 in complete honour of Susie-Belle and her foster mum Janet. I wanted a way to fundraise to help Janet help more like Susie-Belle. Mind you, I never thought that in 5 years we’d have raised over £126,000!
Without Janet managing the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre in the way she does, Susie-Belle and many others like her arriving in serious need would have much more uncertain futures. From my visit to DBARC in 2011 when I met Susie-Belle and Janet for the first time, I have been awed by the work the rescue does. That day will stay in my memory forever. There and then I knew I would have to do more than adopt Susie-Belle. Fortunately, I’ve found ways to do this, to fundraise effectively and on a large scale thanks to Schnauzerfest; to reach people and to tell the stories of the many dogs who have been cared for since Susie-Belle left Janet’s loving sanctuary.
Through my books and other writing I hope I continue to help others see what supporting the work of good rescues can achieve for the animals involved. And on Tuesday in the UK, at 7.30pm, more people than ever will get to see the fun that being a part of Schnauzerfest brings to both humans and dogs.
Tune in and celebrate the many lives, which we together transform.
