Twinklet’s Bumpy Road to Recovery
When Twinklet was rescued from the field she was dumped in and left to die, it wasn’t known how quickly, or even if, she’d recover from her injuries. However, once in the care of the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre one thing was certain: Twinklet’s road to recovery would get off to the best start possible. However, having suffered the critical injuries she had, on top of a lifetime of abusive breeding and neglect, her journey to health is a bumpy one and yesterday wasn’t a good day for her. She spent the day back in the vet hospital on a drip having developed an aggressive bout of haemorrhagic gastroenteritis. This is a nasty, potentially lethal, situation but with the swift action of Team DBARC she was quickly receiving all the care she needed. By yesterday evening she’d stabilised.
It’s always highly stressful when any animal is sick, but with Twinklet, her recovery is fragile and against a traumatic background. Her health is not robust, despite her undoubted courage and astonishing verve and incredible will to enjoy her newly found life. But it’s certainly hoped that her bravery will go a long way to sustaining her healing.
This morning all reports were positive, her tail was wagging, she wolfed down her breakfast and all other symptoms were greatly improved. She’s one brave little dog. Here she was just a few minutes ago…
As we’ve understood from the start of Twinklet’s road to recovery, there are many unknowns involved in her treatment. The success of her jaw surgery won’t be known for a little while and days like yesterday show that the total extent of her veterinary costs won’t be known either, just yet. The Twinklets Smile Appeal fund remains open and people’s generosity and support is greatly valued by every single person involved in caring for this wonderful, courageous little dog.
With ongoing costs for Twinklet, every penny is needed. DBARC have several animals in their care at the moment all requiring expensive treatment, so knowing Twinklet’s treatment costs are being helped is a tremendous weight off their minds. DBARC never flinch from doing what’s needed for all the animals, but the reality of this compassionate, professional ethos to animal rescue comes at a high cost to a small, independent rescue centre.
