Thyroid results
The vet called this morning and little (or not so little these days) Susie-Belle does have an underactive thyroid disorder. It seems good and bad news in an odd way. Good we’ve got to the bottom of her balding, and I know this seems silly, but good that her round tummy and increasing waistline is not solely due to her exuberant enjoyment of food. Bad news of course is that she’ll be on medication for life, but it seems straightforward and certainly less stressful with the ongoing health checks than Cushing’s might have been.
So we start the Soloxine tomorrow and get a blood test done in a month to see how she’s doing on the dosage. Apparently the reference range the vet was looking for her was 13 – 51, her reading came in at 2.4, so significantly low. The vet did give me the cautionary news that although the medication should address the thyroid issue and help prevent further weight gain, it won’t act miraculously and get her weight off now. That’ll be down to us with exercise and continuing vigilance with her portion control. Ho hum, Susie-Belle baby, still small volume meals my foodie girl.
