Guinea fowl and duck gizzards
The last day here in France is nearly over, we head home tomorrow and for once the weather gods were kind to us, the sun made a welcome return after days of rain.
We made the most of it and took the girls on a long walk this morning through beautiful French countryside, managing to find all kinds of muddy tracks & puddle-filled paths for them to enjoy. Renae really shed her inhibitions about getting wet & was up to her knees at times in mucky water, although it was Susie-Belle who led the way across a little stream which blocked our path at one point. We’ve never seen either of them enjoy being wet before, so there’s hope we may get them swimming next summer in the lakes and rivers with us.
After what must have been a five mile walk, we headed out for a last trip to the shops to stock up for the trip home. The car will be weighed down tomorrow by several packs of quails for the freezer at home – they were such a hit with both Renae and Susie-Belle we just have to let them enjoy them a little while longer. We managed to pick up some cheap packs of gesiers de canard which I’m reliably told is duck gizzard, quite a delicacy in this part of France and I’m sure the girls are going to love them.
Tonight’s meal of guinea fowl carcass has just been gutsily polished off and now both Renae and Susie-Belle are settled down for a very well earned snooze while we enjoy our last bottle of red before the New Year resolutions kick in.
