Now for something different, something bright, twinkly & new
After airing some awkward thoughts here the other day and people expressing concern over the sense of despondency and frustration I shared, I thought today I’d tip the balance a notch with something positive. A new project that’s purely done for amusement purposes – mainly mine and my friend Annabel’s but also anyone else who shares our love of words, images and dogs who fancies stopping by and having a glance.
Twinklets is an outlet for some of the odd thoughts we both have when we see our dogs, or those of our friends doing something mildly amusing which drives us both either to writing or drawing. Which is pretty often. Our notebooks as we work together on the children’s book are filling up with ideas that won’t make it into the book, but which might appear on Twinklets.
Although I spend a lot of time researching and reporting the miserable reality for dogs like Susie-Belle and Twinkle, I do take a lot of pleasure from dogs. Loads of it. Anyone who’s read my books will know that they’re not books full of misery and moaning, for me there has to be humour at hand to dispel the gloom. And living with dogs is funny a lot of the time. Even with dogs whose lives were once very far from funny. And Twinkle especially is just made for drawing, those magnificent ears of hers deserve to be immortalised in art. Even if it only makes me and Annabel smile. Although if she knew what we were up to, Twinkle may well be covering her eyes at what was coming next from the pencil of Annabel.
Whilst the page is just a bit of fun, seeing as it is inspired by Twinkle, there may well appear the odd not-so-subtle message about puppy farming, or rescue dogs. You’ll have to forgive us, we just can’t help ourselves.
