The things you come across
It’s a scorching weekend here in the south of England, really, properly hot for once. As we knew it was going to be hot from the forecast, we headed out a little earlier than usual so we could still manage a good walk before the heat started. A lot of it today was through the woods to stay cool, we took a different path and a steep climb up a demanding hill made me regret my choice half way up, by which time it seemed silly to go back down. Susie-belle and I share a trait, we are both pretty lazy when it comes to going up hills, so we took it slowly, stopped several times and were stared at by Renae and Twinkle as if we were mad to stop on such an easy climb. I’d like to have told Susie-Belle it was a short-cut to make the effort worthwhile, only I knew it wasn’t, but it did bring us out into some rather special scenery. Not sure we’ll take the path again, but for this morning, it was survived and Susie-Belle got over the effort quickly enough.
Before we headed up through the woods, we were on the chalk path, it was very exposed and getting warm, and just before I decided to turn up into the shade of the woods, I heard a most peculiar engine noise in the distance. Now the chalk path is a long way from any roads, one of the reasons I love the walk is that it’s totally free of traffic, normally free of people and cyclists too, so the engine noise was a mystery. Until it got closer and this is what the source was….
Someone was in a little microlight, at least I think that’s what they’re called. We had a wave as it went over us and went on its way. Such a funny and unexpected thing to see this morning. As I’m terrified of heights it didn’t appeal to me to be up there getting a bird’s eye view of the countryside, but I’m sure for many people it’s an amazing experience.
It’s so much more of a chore walking in the heat…. at the moment we are having rain, hail and 12 degrees C – but I prefer it to our hot dry summer!

I guess at least we know the heat isn’t going to last for too long here. I love it, but the girls do struggle a bit during the day. Nothing though that you guys have a lot of the year x
It was so hot on our walk today – we just wanted to get inside in the cool for a snooze. Trilby and Leigh saw a baby grass snake on their walk which made Leigh very happy and Trilby quite worried! Woofs and licks from Magic xx
