National Best Friends Day
National Best Friends Day? Every day’s a hashtagged day it seems and some amuse and some are plain weird. Today I love that it’s #nationalbestfriendsday as we’re sharing this hot Wednesday in France with our 3 best friends doing what we all love – being together.
We headed out earlier than usual as the temperatures are due to rise to over 3o degrees according to the forecast. The dogs don’t mind an early start. It was a perfect walk, the tranquility here is something we never get tired of and we appreciate every moment. The route we took was largely shaded but even at 8.30am when in the sun it was getting steamy.
The hedgerows and fields are alive with wildlife, buzzing and busy insects, the birds are nest building, and even a deer crossed our path (fortunately missed by all 3 dogs who were busy with their noses down in the long grass). There’s a handy natural freshwater spring along the route and this morning it was a welcome watering hole, all dipped their paws and had a sip – or in Cerise’s case a great noisy gulp.
Michel and Cerise shared an impromptu breakfast of early, fat juicy wild mulberries that the sun has ripened since the weekend. Renae, Twinkle & I skipped the fruit and opted for sticky flapjacks!
And back at the house we arrived, savouring our show of bright and cheerful poppies. These are abundant in every hedgerow and field edge and provide great swathes of colour in the lull before the sunflowers appear in a few weeks time.
Really, there’s nothing more that can make us happier than sharing #nationalbestfriendsday in our little corner of rural France. I hope that however you’re spending your day, with whomever, you’re able to celebrate in some way having best friends, whether furry or not.
