Schnauzerfest 2015
In May 2014 I came up with an idea for a weekend of walks to raise funds for the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre. With help and suggestions from a lot of people, it came together in October last year and raised a staggering £7500. You can read a summary of how it went here.
Well, it had to be done again, didn’t it? We couldn’t not do it this year after last year’s success!
So here we are, in just over 2 weeks time, schnauzers and their canine and human friends will be walking over the UK to raise money for DBARC and this year, we’ve added East Midlands Dog Rescue to the Schnauzerfest cause.
Both rescues rely entirely on donations and look after dogs saved from puppy farms, providing the care, veterinary treatment and love that’s needed for them to know that their lives are worth living before finding them perfect homes.
This year, Schnauzerfest as well as raising money through the walks themselves has gained a new dimension, one entirely created by the generosity, skills and passion from individuals supporting it. Several small businesses have been making, selling and donating items, from calendars, to bandanas, corsages, mosaic coasters and dog tags through the year. It’s been uplifting seeing people enthusiastically make and buy items that are directly supporting these 2 small rescues.
Some days campaigning against puppy farming can be a miserable, soul-destroying way to spend my time, but taking a look at Schnauzerfest has more than once buoyed me up to keep fighting.
Yesterday we opened the Schnauzerfest raffle, having received many donations of prizes, including signed books, art work, dog toys, handmade gifts and two, yes, two holidays! Remarkable generosity. Ticket sales are through Paypal payments to email: schnauzerfest@icloud.com and cost £1 for 5 tickets. Details of all prizes are here
Walks are taking place over the weekend of 17th and 18th October and details of all walks can be found here.
