Cheese straw anyone?
The house smells good, mince-pies for us and cheese straws for the girls have been baking all afternoon.
We keep these as special bed-time treats and the pleasure on their faces when they come in from their last wee and it’s “into bed” time for the night is just delightful as they sit and wait for their cheesey biscuit – we reckon it’s a bit like canine cocoa.
Susie-Belle’s bed-time cheese straws
3 cups of plain flour
1.5 cups grated cheddar cheese
3 cups of plain flour
1.5 cups grated cheddar cheese
1/2 a cup of grated parmesan
2 cloves of finely chopped garlic
2 cloves of finely chopped garlic
1/2 a cup of sunflower oil
1/2 a cup of milk
Preheat oven to 200C. Thoroughly mix together all the ingredients adding milk or water if it’s too dry. Roll out till it’s roughly 0.5 cm thick and place on a greased baking sheet. Cook for 10 minutes, take out, cut into small strips or squares and put back into the oven for another 5 or 10 minutes until crispy and cooked looking. Allow to cool thoroughly before storing in an airtight container. We freeze in small batches and take out as required.
