Susie-Belle’s Special Pill Masking Mackerel Pate
Susie-Belle takes a few supplements to give her maximum healthy support with the few health issues she lives with, both long term like her “dry-eye” and joint stiffness and arthritis and short term such as her current cruciate ligament tear. She’s always been a perfect patient and has taken her medicines without any bother, with one or two I have to disguise.
Recently Michel has made her a new flavoursome and healthy pill-disguiser pate which has gone down a storm, not only with our foodie Susie-Belle but Twinkle and Renae too. They all love the mackerel pate so much, it seems only fair we share the joy with others who may want to try it as a treat.
It couldn’t be simpler. Whizz up together in a blender a portion of de-skinned cooked mackerel, a spoonful of crème fraiche, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and voila, a fast, simple, delicious tasting treat is at the ready. Can also be made with tuna, or other fish. We give them just a tiny taste of a smear on the tip of our finger and this satisfies them like they’ve had a banquet.
Last night we were having crudités of carrot, celery and cucumber. All 3 dogs enjoy raw carrot but as we had the mackerel pate, we dipped the end of each carrot stick into it for them to make it a special treat. Simple, delicious, healthy and fun to share with the girls. They heartily recommend it.
