My Read-A-Thon has started
A Read-A-Thon in aid of Schnauzerfest sounds doable. Sounds fun. And two books in, so far it is, both easy and fun. Just as fundraising should be in my view – well, fun, perhaps easy is less important, but if I’m to keep going all year, easy and fun it is.
While some will enjoy exerting themselves and pushing through pain barriers and aiming for personal bests of time and distance for charity in 2023 my Read-A-Thon involves none of that. My goal is to read 50 books and review each one with a donation which reflects it. I am a poor book critic and on Goodreads I mostly give 4 or 5 stars or nothing at all. This challenge however will be a true reflection of what I think about a book. So a 5 star review will raise a £15 donation from me, a 1 star £3
Thus:
5 star = £15
4 star = £12
3 star = £9
2 star = £6
1 star = £3
There is an open invitation for everyone to add their review in the form of a donation of their own choosing. That could be £1 per star, it is completely up to individuals. Any amount donated will be very welcome.
I am also looking for book recommendations. Although do I really need any? I probably have 3 million books in my ‘to be read’ piles around the house and on my Kindle hiding away out of sight. (I kid myself that this conceals my book obsession). But in the spirit of making this an interactive challenge, yes, recommend away. My appeal for recommendations is nothing at all to do with feeding my greed for books, honest. Feel free to recommend books you think are so good they will get a maximum 5* review and therefore donation.
Through the year I’ll be updating my Justgiving link regularly, every time I complete a book for the Read-A-Thon and make a donation.
I’d love you to support me, either by adding your own review in the form of a donation, or, you could sponsor me for the whole 50 books, a penny a book would make a £5 donation.
Why might you choose to support me?
Times are more difficult now in animal rescue than many have ever known. It is a genuine crisis. Your donations will help by paying vet bills for rescued dogs. For a single dog these can easily run into thousands of pounds. Schnauzerfest also supports dogs post adoption if insurance cover is not available. This can be the case for conditions commonly affecting dogs from bad backgrounds such as neglect, puppy farming and abuse.Your donations will give a lifeline for rescuers, fosterers and adopters. You have never been more needed.
Susie-Belle spent more years of her life being cruelly exploited in the puppy breeding industry than she did being loved. At the heart of Schnauzerfest is a commitment to raising awareness of the industry and promoting the joys of adoption. Your donations will support this vital work.
