Be Like An Icelander Give Maya This Christmas
If I suggested being like an Icelander, I wonder what springs to mind? Before I go down a road of stereotyping a nation of just over 300,000 people, I’ll mention just one great, Icelandic tradition which I think deserves global adoption.
On Christmas Eve, Icelanders traditionally give each other books as gifts, to spend the Christmas holiday reading. This solid, literary tradition is so ingrained in Icelandic culture that it’s known to support a thriving publishing industry. The Jolabokaflod, or “Christmas Book Flood,” between September and December is when the majority of books in Iceland are sold in preparation for Christmas giving. (Read more here)
According to a BBC article, “The country has more writers, more books published and more books read, per head, than anywhere else in the world.”
If you fancy adopting this wonderful tradition, can I suggest taking advantage of the ‘Saving Maya’ Christmas Book Offer which Annabel and I are opening today?
As we prepare for the busy Wokingham Winter Carnival Book Signing (27 November) we have available a limited number of first edition signed (by us both) copies of Saving Maya for this rather special Christmas book offer.
The offer is available worldwide (shipping costs will apply) and open until 14th December. For every copy sold as part of this Christmas book offer, we will make a donation to Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre.
So not only will you be buying a beautifully produced, entertaining, informative read, you’ll also be supporting one of the best small, independent animal rescues in the world – yes, I’m biased, and no, I don’t think I’m exagerating in the least, they are the best in my opinion.
Annabel and I appreciate everyone’s support for the book. Right from the outset it’s been a project made possible by the support of many, and this is the best time of year to get it out, in significant numbers carrying with it important messages about pet rescue and the puppy business. We hope this offer will help in getting the story of Maya and dogs like her, out to a wider audience.
Books can bring about great changes in the world. With your help, we hope to be a part of changing things for breeding dogs everywhere. Plus, reviewers tell us it’s a great read. Perfect for Christmas stockings the world over.
